Designed to be the tallest statue in Indonesia, this statue is inspired by a Hindu story about Garuda’s search for Tirta Amrita, the elixir of life. According to this story, Garuda agreed to be ridden by Vishnu in exchange for the right to use the elixir to free his enslaved mother. The monument was completed on July 31, 2018, and inaugurated by Indonesian President Joko Widodo on September 22, 2018.[3][4] It is the tallest statue of a Hindu deity and the tallest statue in Indonesia.

The statue is projected to encompass the landscape with a visibility of up to 20 km, making it visible from Kuta, Sanur, Nusa Dua, and Tanah Lot. The Garuda Wisnu Kencana statue symbolizes the mission of saving the environment and the world. Made of a 4,000-ton copper and steel alloy, the statue is 76 meters high and 66 meters wide.
